foundation piles (center) - build piles up in suit from the base card until each pile contains 13 cards, except for the center King (the Sultan), which is not built on at all. At the start of the game the Kings and the Ace Hearts are dealt here.

tableau piles (left and right of foundations) - build down regardless of suit. Only one card at a time can be played. Spaces are automatically filled from the waste or, if the waste is empty, from the stock. At the start of the game 1 card is dealt face up to each pile.

stock (face down) - turn over cards one at a time to the waste pile by clicking. There are 1 redeal. After redeal waste can hold only one card.

waste (next to stock) - top card is available for play on the foundations or reserves.
